The first time I saw the Umpqua River Light was at night. It was raining and we saw the light moving through the trees from the highway. What a great adventure we had when we turned off the road and found the light. It is my favorite lighthouse so far. But I've only seen about 20.

You might want to try some of the popular lighthouse newsgroups. A few of the more popular ones are: The US Coast Guard also maintains a very informative page about lighthouses. Last, but not least, the US Lighthouse Society's web site is another treasure trove of information.

I am Mimi Fung Meiyin ,from Hong Kong.I am a student studying MA History.I like the lighthouses very much .I like the Boston Light,Cape Hatteras Light and Portland Light. The lighthouses in the US are very beatiful. I never seen the lighthouse but I still think that they are very beatiful, pictureque and romatic to view them.Could you mind telling me how does a lighthouse work and are they still shining at night?Do they still be used for guide the ships now? If it is foogy,we can't see th lighthouses effectively.Do you think so? What does the lighthouse keeper do? I hope I could find some lighthouse fans to exchange to exchange and learn more about the lighthouses information and things and hope we could be friends. Mimi

Nice work Charlie! You're a man of many talents! I'm glad I/we got a card from you last night, I enjoyed looking over your photos. I'll look them over with Leslie tonight. My favorite pick(s) are the red sky around Cape Blanco, the rays of light off the top of Pigeon Point (the buiness card photo) and the "yellow on blue" on the Heceta lighthouse. Will probably see you next Wednesday. GM

I've had very little success with digital cameras, unfortunatley. During long exposures, the image gets a little "noisy".
